Don McMullen

“Senior Guide” at High Peaks Mountain Adventures, Don was raised in the St. Regis Canoe and High Peaks Regions.

He has guided extensively throughout the Adirondacks, New Hampshire, and Maine since 1967.  An Adirondack 46er since 1962 (#244), and Northeast 111er since 1992 (#217), Don finished the Northeast 111 in winter in 2010 (#54).  Yet on foot or by paddle, he has a strong preference for being off the regular routes in the Cold River Valley at least as well as looking at it from the summit of Donaldson.   A school teacher in Lake Placid since 1990, Don founded the school-based Lake Placid Outing Club in 1993, and is equally at home with grade-schoolers, extended college orientation trips, or relaxed-pace “AA” climbs of the trail-less peaks, hence the AARP trips.  In fact, having guided the only known 28-hour ascent of Seward to finish the oldest recorded 46er, Don may claim to be the Adirondacks’ most patient guide.

Specialties: Hiking, finishing 46ers, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, snowshoeing.
