Meet Our Guides
Owner
Brian Delaney
Brian started High Peaks Cyclery with his wife Karen in 1983. Ever sense, he has spent his time exploring every corner of the Adirondacks, and is ready to share what he has learned.
As owner of High Peaks Mountain Guides/Cyclery, Brian has been guiding for over 30 years. He is our senior winter guide and Program Director, guiding ice climbing, hiking, backcountry skiing, telemark skiing and winter mountain ascents. In summer he specializes in hiking, road and mountain bike coaching and guiding, rock climbing, and roller skiing.
Brian also organizes and promotes many fun local events and competitions.

Karen Delaney
Whether paddling, hiking, or skiing, she loves sharing her passion for the outdoors with everyone.
Karen moved to Lake Placid January of 1980 to work as a nurse during the 1980 Olympics games. She fell in love with the area and all it has to offer. She and Brian opened HPC in May of 1983. Four children later she still loves to get out in the great local wilderness, especially sharing her passion with women, children, and families.
Her specialties are nordic skiing, back country skiing, snowshoeing, biking (all types), hiking, and paddling. She is even a lifeguard and teaches local kids and triathletes swimming. She welcomes all to experience the Adirondack’s diversity and beauty!
Guide
Royce Van Evera
Royce has been a guide since the 70’s. He has traveled all over the world in his adventures and is eager to share his love and knowledge of the outdoors with you!
Royce started his guiding career leading wilderness canoe trips in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and the Quetico, Canadian National Park. He added rock climbing to his resume in the early 1990’s. Royce’s climbing sojourns have taken him to California, Colorado, Kentucky, New Hampshire, Oregon, West Virginia and the Dolomite’s of Northern Italy. Royce was born out West but has lived in or near the Adirondacks for the past 40 years. He is employed as a seasonal full-time alpine ski coach and wilderness guide.
Guide
Lucas Elliott
Lucas been climbing ice and rock for nearly 20 years. He’s an enthusiastic instructor, very knowledgeable about rescue techniques (he’s a new member of the local search-and-rescue team), and is an all-around rad and positive person to hang with. He grew up here in the Adirondacks, and then spent a couple years on the road climbing full-time. Now he’s back working as a guide for our outfit.
When he’s not on on the sharp end of the rope, you’ll find Lucas exploring the High Peaks, skiing and snowboarding (yes, both), or working as a service tech in our shop tuning bikes and skis.
Guide
Jarrod Blundy
Jarrod may have only discovered the Adirondacks in 2021, but he’s no stranger to adventure. A graduate of the Outdoor & Environmental Recreation program at Central Michigan University, Jarrod believes the best learning happens when you’re just a little outside your comfort zone — and where better to push the boundaries than in the great outdoors? He cut his teeth as a guide interning for the Adventure Programs & Education (APE) department at Fort Carson in Colorado. An Eagle Scout, Jarrod also served as Camp Director for Firelands Scout Reservation, helping young people to be the best version of themselves using the outdoor living as a medium. Jarrod has travelled across the USA to guide backpacking, rock climbing, and whitewater adventures for folks of all ages and abilities.
Now in the Adirondacks, Jarrod is finding all kinds of new outdoor ventures to master! He’s exploring the ADK — the horizontal and vertical — by bike, ski, and foot. Jarrod is a Leave No Trace Master Educator, and a New York State Licensed Guide for hiking, camping, canoeing and kayaking, Tier II single-pitch ice climbing, and Tier I multi-pitch rock climbing.
